"Wartoft. This small hamlet originally called Wavertoft Grange, was formerly a grange belonging to the priory of Norton in Cheshire ... In 1346, the prior of Norton ... was assessed 5s. for half a quarter of one Knight's fee in Wartoft juxta Donington.
Some old walls shew where the old Grange stood, on the site of which a modern farm-house is now built." (2)

The present farmhouse and buildings are of 18/19th c. brick. No trace of an earlier house was seen. (3) |
