More information : SK 299 984 A number of stone enclosures of agricultural type, to the W. of Gosling Moor. Excavation has revealed pottery of 2nd cent. A.D., but nothing else. Not visible on A.Ps F.22, R.A.F. 1094/0115-6 dated 21.4.53. (1-2) A group of three irregular-shaped, rubble enclosures, now partially turf-covered, at SE 2988 9847, SE 2993 9871 and SE 2997 9885 respectively. (Published survey 25" revised). No associated field system can be identified, and there is no evidence that they originally formed the nucleus of a settlement. They are, however, similar to a type of pastoral enclosure, found in Wharfedale, that is generally considered to be of IA/RB origin. See GP AO/53/34/7. (3) SK 299987. Excavated by L H Butcher (see authority 1). Scheduled as Romano-British settlements (see also SK 39 NW/21). (4) |
