More information : SV 92001169 (1). A possibly undistrubed chambered cairn or barrow near Maypole situated just to the west of the junction of High Lane and the road to Holy Vale. Ashbee notes worked flints being found at Maypole, probably now in Hugh Town Museum. They probably include the four 'thumb-nail' scrapers in the museum, illustrated by Mackenzie which were found at Maypole, in 1925. A small banked, open ended feature is visible at the given reference. This cairn/barrow is not listed in Ashbee's gazeteer (3). At SV 92001170, in the grounds of a house on the south west side of High Lane, is a large mound low and amorphous, situated on the summit of a small ridge. This mound has been built up, or added to, by dumping of refuse in recent years. It is possible that the cairn referred to by Ashbee lies underneath as a search of the area failed to reveal any other likely site. The mound, shaped as an elongated horseshoe, measures 20.0 m x 12.0 m overall, and varies in height from 1.6 m on the south to 0.9 m on the north east. Surveyed at 1:2500 on PFD.
