Summary : A Bronze Age round barrow on Leaholm Moor 16m in diameter and 1.5m high. On the south side of the centre there is a 1m deep hollow 3m across at the base and 5m at the top. This is the result of antiquarian excavation the spoil from which forms a lobe on the south side of the mound. The barrow was also mapped from air photographs as part of the North York Moors NMP and appears to be extant on the latest 2009 vertical photography. Scheduled. |
More information : (NZ 75420925) Rawland Howe (NR) (1) A heather covered barrow with centre hollowed, and measuring 17.0m in diameter and up to 1.2m high. On the south side of the centre there is a 1m deep hollow 3m across at the base and 5m at the top. This is the result of antiquarian excavation the spoil from which forms a lobe on the south side of the mound. Name still in local use. Surveyed at 1:10 000. (2)
The barrow was also mapped from air photographs as part of the North York Moors NMP and found to be as described by authority 2 above. The barrow is extant on the latest 2009 vertical photography. (4) |
