SKELTON CASTLE

Country house built circa 1770 on the site of a castle of 1072, rebuilt in 1190, which was demolished circa 1788. The house was extended 1810-1817 by Ignatius Bonomi. Other extensions undertaken mid/late C19. The medieval north wing and bits of wall and windows are incorporated in the current building. The well defined course of a moat can be traced. Sandstone and slate.
