More information : The remains of a market cross supposed to have been erected during the early 14th century is situated on the Town Green, Skelton. (1) NZ 65531887. The cross consists of a stone pillar 2.0m high and 0.3m square, slightly tapering with chamfered corners. There were originally four iron straps, of unknown purpose, on the sides near the top, but two are now missing. There is no trace of a socket stone. (2) As described in authority 2, but now set in the centre of a circular raised and walled flower bed. (3)
