More information : (NZ 56181732) Tumulus (NR). (1) A very fine example of a pond barrow (Bronze Age) with an outer bank of earth and stones and a turf covered central depression. The outside diameter is 11.0m and the bank is 2.7m wide and 0.3m high. The central depression is 0.7m below the top of the bank. Appears to be non-mutilated. Published survey (25") revised. (2) 0067 Eston Moor, Eston NZ 5619 1732 This mound appears to be one of the few genuine pond barrow/enclosed cremation cemeteries in Cleveland. It is situated on almost level moorland at 200m O.D. The bank is of small stone and earth construction and measures 10m in external diameter. The bank is 3m wide and 0.2m high with the centre sunk 0.8m below the top of the bank. It appears to be intact. The western half of the monument has recently been obscured by the overdumping of spoil from a recut track, which runs close by. This is a scheduled ancient monument. NZ 5616 1727. Ring cairn on Eston Moor 1.3km north of Mill Farm. Scheduled RSM No 20854. The ring cairn measures 16m in diameter; the annular bank, composed of small stones and earth, is 3m thick and stands to a height of 0.2m. It encloses a hollow area 10m in diameter. There is no surface trace of an external or internal stone kerb revettment. (4)
