More information : NZ 365 681. Outside the NE corner of the Roman fort, remains of several buildings including a possible Roman circular hypocaust were discovered 1791 and 1798. Bruce considered these remains to be of "mixed character some Roman, others of a later date". (1-2)
Excavations in 1959 at Beacon Street (NZ 3653 6805) revealed evidence of a tribunal and shrine area associated with the parade ground of the fort. Coin and pottery evidence points to use during the C2nd AD, falling off in the second half of the C3, when the site was abandoned. (3)
