The Little Park

Hob Uid: 251084
Location :
Windsor and Maidenhead
Non Civil Parish
Grid Ref : SU9740477040
Summary : Deer park situated to the east and north of Windsor Castle which was originally enclosed from Windsor Forest. The park was expanded during the late14th century and by the early 17th century covered an area of 280 acres. By 1660 the park had increased in size and covered an area of 500. Much of the park is now occupied by The Home Park and was landscaped during the mid 19th century.
More information : [Area SU 975 767] The little park on the east and north sides of the castle which in Norden's time [Norden's chap. of Windsor 1607] contained only 280 acres was enlarged and enclosed with a brick wall by William III. It now consists of about 500 acres. [Boundary plotted from 2]. (1-2)

All but the western edge of the area formerly occupied by The Little
Park now falls within the Home Park. The limits of the earlier park
are not visible on the ground. An obvious boundary on the north
and east sides would seem to be a steep natural scarp but this
appears to be inside the area defined by Norden. (3)
