More information : (NZ 23494538) Witton Hall (NR). (NZ 23504537) Chapel (NR) (site of) (NAT) (1) Witton Gilbert Hall, 18th century and later, on site of a leper hospital. Former chapel in grounds has now disappeared. Gde II. (2) Hospital of St Mary Magdalen founded by Gilbert de la Ley (Circa 1154-80) for the support of 5 lepers. Dissolved after 1532. (3) Leper Hospital. Some masonry and one fine late 12th or early 13th century pointed window head at Witton Hall. (4) Remains of the probable chief entrance of the hospital, consisting of a doorway with a Norman arch, is visible in the kitchen of Witton Hall. (5) Witton Hall, a plain farmhouse incorporating the window and doorway of the former hospital, as in Authy 5 and 6. The two-light window is at first floor level in the east wall; the Norman arch has been plastered and painted over, but still recognisable. (6)
