DURFORD ABBEY

Premonstratensian monastery founded by 1161 by Henry Husey and dedicated to the Blessed Virgin Mary and Saint John the Baptist. Dissolved in 1534. Some original elements of the monastic buildings survive as ruined fragments incorporated within the fabric of the later farmhouse and stable block (both Listed Grade II). There are some below-ground remains and the fishponds survive as earthworks.
