In 1247-8 Elias de la Falaise granted 5 1/2 virgates from the Manor of Rowner to Quarr Abbey (SZ59SE) (a).
At the Dissolution the Grange at Charke in Rowner (3) was valued at #12 2s 6d. (b) (After the Dissolution this land appears to have returned to Rowner Manor, SU50SE) as Henry Brune, Lord of the Manor, died 1594, left "a manor or farm called the Grange" to provide portions for 5 unmarried daughters (c). (SU 58330033) "I have been told that the farmhouse known as 'Grange Farm', traditionally the granary of Quarr Abbey, was built in 1570, but I do not know on what authority. (5)
The east front of Grange Farm, although much altered, retains its late 16th/early 17th cent style. Elsewhere the house has been largely rebuilt.
