More information : [SU 43987252] Earthwork [G.T]. 1) Palmer says that Borough Hill Camp Boxford measures 210 ft. x 180 ft. and that the ramparts can still be traced with evidence of a surrounding ditch. Ward Perkins states that these probably represent a univallate I.A. Hill Fort and that sherds of I.A. 'A', 'B', and haematite coated pottery have been found at the site. (2,3) Borough Hill is a small rounded sand hillock, 8.0 m. to 10.0 m high, with a flat top approximately 30.0 m. in diameter. There is no evidence of a rampart or ditch. The feature published on the O.S 6" and 25" map represent Palmer's earthwork. On the south side this consists of a scarp resulting from the construction of a field bank, and on the west the grassed over face of an old sand digging. There are only natural slopes around the north and east sides. Neither the size nor the situation of Borough Hill is suitable for a Hill Fort. No information was obtained about the finding of the I.A. pottery or its present location. (4)
