Summary : Site of Friary of the Crutched Friars. Sir Richard Abberbury granted land in Donnington to the London Friary in 1376, for 2 chaplains to serve the chapel there. A small dependent friary and church wer built on the North side of the chapel. In 1448, the endowment of the chapel was forfeited because the prior had not fulfilled the conditions of endowment. The friary was surrendered in 1538 when two friars were present. It was stated incorrectly then that the house was Trinitarian in 1538, later corrected to be of the Crossed (Crutched) Friars. The site is now occupied by the 18th century Priory House. |
