Summary : Spital Hill is probably the site of St Leonard's Hospital, a hospital for the poor, aged and sick founded pre- A.D. 1135 at Mitford and dissolved circa 1537. Founded by William Bertram. Some time after 1464 the hospital was annexed to Newminster Abbey.

A Hospital for the poor, aged and sick founded pre- A.D. 1135 at Mitford and dedicated to St Leonard; dissolved c. A.D. 1537. Founded temp. Henry I by William Bertram. Some time after 1464 the hospital was annexed to Newminster Abbey.
