More information : (Sustern (or Sister's) Hospital, similar to an almshouse, connected with the Cathedral Priory. Founded before 1393. Dissolved c.1539. (1) Situated to the S of the Close, near Kingsgate Street; later taken over by Winchester College for the extension of buildings for use by the Commoners. Hospital mentioned in 1352-3 and 1387 as victims of the Black Death. (2-3) The site of this hospital is shown on the O.S. Map of Winchester, 1920, at SU 48162905 but there are no remains. (4)
