St Marys Church

Summary : Late 12th-early 13th century chancel, nave, North aisle, North porch, South vestry and West tower are 13th century and 15th century. The South aisle has been destroyed but the arcade remains blocked up. The font is Transitional, richly carved, and stands in front of the tower arch. The church was thoroughly restored in 1876. There is evidence that Upavon was the site of a minster in the late Saxon period. This was the priory church of the Benedictine alien cell of St Wandrille from the 12th century to 1378, (See SU15NW4).

St Mary's Church, Upavon, is largely Norman though much restored in 1875. It has 13thc north and south arcades and a tower of probably circa 1300. (2)

A Church of St. Mary

Flint and stone. Chancel Norman, chancel arch Transitional, nave and W. tower Early English. The chancel arch decorated with zig-zag and dog tooth ornament is flanked by arched recesses with squints in which the nave alters originally stood. The S. aisle has been destroyed but the arcade remains blocked up. The font is Transitional, richly carved, and stands in front of the tower arch. The church was thoroughly restored in 1876. (3)
