More information : (Centred SU 19995786) Tumuli (LB). (1) A barrow cemetery with bell, bowl and an oval double disc barrow. The two bell barrows (Milton Lilbourne 2 and 4) and one of the bowl barrows (Milton Lilbourne 5) have been intrepreted as a triple barrow, the bell barrows originally started as separate entities, conjoined at a later date by the bowl barrow. The cemetery had been investigated by Thurnam who located a primary cremation in Milton Lilbourne 1. Excavations in 1958 were carried out on five of the barrows, primary cremations were recorded in three of the barrows, one was situated within a timber coffin with a miniature vessel, another was accompanied by a bronze awl. One barrow, Milton Lilbourne 2, contained no apparent burials, it was used at a later date as a rabbit warren. (2-4)
