More information : The lower part of a bronze socketed axe, found in the ruins of a cottge at Durrington, (SU 1544), is in Devizes Museum (DM 1145). It was found in 1918 and purchased by Devizes Museum in 1923. No other details are known. (1)
Although "found" in the ruins of a cottage, Moore & Rowlands state that according to John Soul of Amesbury, the axe had originally been found near the Knighton Long Barrow, probably before 1900. (2) |
