Summary : A prehistoric linear boundary ditch circa 400 metres long with a central break of circa 80 metres, situated on Tan Hill. Comprising a ditch and bank, the earthwork may well be connected with another to the east (SU 06 NE 41). It has been plough damaged but is visible on aerial photogarphs. Scheduled. |
More information : SU 09076449 to SU 09456449. A boundary feature extending along a S facing hillside for 400.0m with a central break of 80.0m. It comprises a 4.0m wide and 0.4m deep ditch with a bank on the lower side 4.0m wide overall and 0.6m maximum height. The condition on the whole is not good, and it has been ploughed over. The earthwork may have linked with a similar one 350.0m to the E (SU 06 NE 41) but numerous hollow ways have destroyed intermediate traces. Presumed to be of LBA or IA origin, and to form part of the other local field system or ranch boundaries. Surveyed at 1:2500. (1)
