More information : (Centred NZ 140073) Park Wall (NR) (1) Henry FitzHugh received licence to make a park extending to 200 acres around Ravensworth Castle in 1391. (2) The park covers an area about 105.25 hectares and is bounded by a well-preserved wall averaging 1.2 metres high and 1.2 metres thick. There are several breaks in the wall and in the west it is non-existent, see OS 6" for comments. (3)
The wall is constructed of square-cut sandstone blocks. It has been incorporated into the current field pattern and survives well, though at a reduced height. It is unclear whether this wall marks the original boundary of the park or is a later modification. (4)
