More information : John Britton claimed that Shaftesbury Abbey, who held the Manor of Dinton until the Dissolution had a cell of six nuns at Dinton. No evidence for this has been found, although it is known that the abbess's capital messuage had a chapel attached to it. (1-2)
The capital messuage was Dinton House (Philipps House at SU 004319 on OS 6") and this was "probably the home of Britton's cell of six nuns (if that in fact existed) and he located the cell close to the site of Dinton House". (3)
Local enquiries elicited no further information. (4)
