More information : A Roman cinerary urn of Upchurch ware, black-coated grey ware with lattice ornament, perhaps 3rd c (2) was found in 1843 (V.C.H. wrongly gives 1943) near the stone quarry, Whetham Farm, by Isaac Hughes. It was given to Devizes Museum by the Rev. A.C. Smith. (The cataglogue refers to W.A.M. 2, 60, but this is an error for W.A.M. 1, 1854, 60, which refers to urns from Bromham villa - ST 96 NE given to the Museum by Smith). (1,2) There were two quarries near Whetham Farm, at ST 977681 and ST 978674. No recent finds have been made though the quarry at ST 978674 is near to the possible site of Verlucio (See ST 96 NE 10) and the find may be associated with it. (3)
