More information : Middleton, in Norton Bavant, is listed as a suspect DMV, separately assessed in 1334 but now no more than a farm. (Sited to ST 906445 by (1) but to ST 905438 by (2)). (1-2) Middleton DMV is situated at ST 90754456 in a field immediately to the north of Middleton Farm. The remains, mutilated in places by surface digging, consist of several building platforms terraced into the SW facing field and bounded on the north by a hollow way. To the SW of the complex are two roughly rectangular depressions the larger of which is almost certainly a pond. The smaller, deeper, depression is either a pond or a pit associated with the adjacent surface digging. The terracing has a maximum height of 1.3m. The hollow way terminates at its southern end on a crescentic banked structure of uncertain use. It appears to have originally been circular, the SW portion having been destroyed by digging, and though it seems coeval with the DMV it may have been constructed in a later period. Surveyed at 1:2500. (3) No change; report of 13.3.69. correct. (4) Middleton is listed within the gazetteer of DMVs known in 1968. (5)
A shrunken settlement set on prehistoric lynchets on the south side of Middle Hill. The settlement is enclosed by a boundary bank and ditch on the NW and NE sides and by a hollow-way to the SE.
