Summary : The site of Roman turret 18B, part of the defences on Hadrian's Wall. There is no surface trace of the turret; the excavated site at NZ 0384 6848 is below the modern road and verge.
More information : (NZ 03840 68486) TURRET 18B (GSC) (Site of) (TI) (1) The old toll-house at Wallhouses, now demolished, covered the greater part of the turret, which was examined in 1931, and partly excavated in March 1959. (2-3) No visible remains. The site is covered by the grass verge of a modern road. (4) Partly excavated in 1959 by Durham Univ. Excavn. Comm. Excavation suggested that, as is suspected of the other turrets E of the N Tyne, it went out of use by the end of the 2nd century. (5) There is no surface trace of the turret; the excavated site at NZ 0384 6848 is below the modern road and verge. (6) Scheduled (7) Located on the English Heritage map of Hadrian's Wall 2010. (8)
