Summary : Site of a Roman building indicated by surface finds of pottery, building debris and tesserae; possibly the site of a villa.
More information : A new Roman site has been recently discovered S.W. of St. Algars Farm at ST 786417. Finds consist of a scatter of mixed pottery including Samian and New Forest ware, and also pieces of bricks and tiles, and fragments of old red sandstone. (1) Trial excavation over an area of 400sq.m. suggested the presence of a large villa and settlement. (2) The finds are mainly surface in nature, and at this stage any plan would be meaningless (3). The presence of tesserae suggested a villa (4). (3-4) Scheduled. (5)
