MONUMENT NO. 19973

DESCRIPTION + /

Site of the deserted medieval village and chapel of Mortham. The settlement was mentioned in Domesday, but was destroyed by the Scots in 1346 and never rebuilt. The remains were demolished by Sir Thomas Robinson in the late 18th century. Earthworks, including traces of ridge and furrow, are visible on aerial photographs.
