visible." (2)

"Some remains of a supposed chapel, part of the east wall being yet to be seen." (3)

The remains of a building orientated E-W and measuring 14.5m x 5.9m
externally, with walls 0.8m thick, all of which are at foundation
level apart from a short fragment and the east end which stands to a
height of 1m. The only apparent entrance is central to the south
side, but no dateable features survive.

To the north and east are traces of an enclosing wall. Published
survey (25") revised. See photograph. (4)

The site was visited by RCHME during the Durham SAMs project 1991.
The remains are as described by authority (4), the origin and
function of the building seems uncertain however its location near
to Scargill Castle suggests it may be related to this medieval
settlement. (5)
