Barrow Court stands on the site of a priory of Benedictine nuns, dedicated to the Blessed Virgin Mary and St Edward King and Martyr, founded c1200 but first recorded in 1212; it was suppressed in 1536. (2-3)
The present limestone rubble building with freestone dressings is of the 16th century, with 19th century and later additions, now used as a Diocesan Training College. HHR Grade 2. (4)
Barrow Court, now a Teachers' Training College, retains its Jacobean frontage but has been extensively added to at the rear and to the S.W. See ground photographs. (5)
