More information : NE of Ilchester on the meadows known as Kings Hams, a
cropmark site recently distinguished on aerial photographs, may
represent a Roman fort. No clear traces survive on the ground, but a
rectangular double ditched enclosure was visible from the air,
measuring internally c100m x 130m and covering approx 3.2 acres
(1.3ha).
Traces of at least one entrance were visible to the west, but as no
dated material is yet available, identification rests solely at
present upon the appearance of this enclosure and its proximity to
the Roman settlement.
