More information : [ST 46005877] T.293: 51o 19' 30", 2o 46' 30" Long Barrow. This was pointed out to me by Dr. H. Taylor. Surveyed by the geographical Dept., Bristol Univ. The barrow is not situated on the highest ground but is some distance down the southern slope in the eastern portion of the Hill. (1) There are several low banks in this area, which have probably resulted from mining operations, but none that resembles a long barrow. (2)
The possible long barrow reffered to above (1) is likely to be the result of mining operations as referred to by (2) or may be a misidentifed field boundary from the prehistoric field system recorded as ST45NE 108/HOB UID 1494935, at this location. No earthworks resembling a long barrow were visible on the available aerial photographs in this vicinity. (3) |
