More information : (ST 380578) An area of lynchets at Christon, see plan. (1) In the upper part of field 47 they overlie earlier "up and down" lynchets similar to and a little wider than the possibly 10th century lynchets at Oldmixon (see ST 35 NW, 21). (2-3)
A group of four Medieval lynchets which define five cultivation terraces are visible as earthworks on aerial photographs and Lidar. The site is centred on ST 3791 5788, and extends over an area which measures 297 metres north-south and 66 metres east-west. The fields or cultivation terraces which these lynchets define measure between 9 metres and 15 metres wide, and up to 280 metres long. These lynchets are an integral part of the field system associated with Christon Medieval settlement (see ST 35 NE 2 / UID: 192356), with lynchets continuing to the east on the same NNW-SSE alignment (4-5).
