BURTLE PRIORY

A hermitage was extant in the 13th century on land called Sprawlesmede, and it was endowed by William de Eddington to the Augustinian order as a priory cell. Between 1267-1275, it was made subject to Glastonbury Abbey, and was dissolved in 1536.
