More information : [ST 0362 2802; ST 0362 2797] TUMULI [GT]. (1) Huish Champflower No. 2 [SS 03622802] a gutted bowl barrow 20 paces diameter and 5 1/2 ft. high trenched by F. Hancock in 1896. Within inner retaining circle of stones 10 ft. diameter and 2 ft. high were 'British' potsherds, central (?) pit but no human remains. There was an outer retaining circle 3ft inside present margin of barrow. Huish Champflower No. 3, [SS 0362 2797] a gutted bowl barrow used as rubbish dump. It is 25 paces diameter and 6 ft. high. Trenched by F. Hancock in 1896. Primary and two secondary cremations. Urn with one secondary - it is said that the other had a "sword about 3 ft. long, found 40 years previously" and now lost, but this is very doubtful. Retaining wall was just within margin of barrow. (2) Two bowl barrows, the southern is 1.9m high and the northern 1.6m high. The excavation trenches dug by Hancock have never been filled in. Re-surveyed at 1:2500 See G.Ps AO/65/179/7 & 8. (3)
