Summary : The approximate site of Roman turret 24B, part of the defences on Hadrian's Wall. It is located under the 18th century Military Road.
More information : [NY 9509 6940] Turret 24B [GSC] (Site of) [T.I.] (1) This was located, in Feb. 1930, 101 ft. east of the fence on the west side of Tithe Barn [NY 9509 6937] Remains of its masonry were found to be three courses high, near the modern road, gradually reducing to one at the corner on the east wall. (2) There are no visible remains. The site is mainly covered by a modern road. (3) The turret was escavated in 1930 to locate its position only (4a). The site of the turret lies under the Military Road; no surface trace in area NY 9509 6940. (4) Scheduled (5) Located on the English Heritage map of Hadrian's Wall 2010. (6)
