More information : [NY 9944 6851] Turret 21B [GSC[ (Site of) [T.I.] (1)
This was located in 1930, 210 yards from the N.W. corner of the Severan extension of Haltonchesters Fort. (2)
The position when "tested", produced an area of "dark soil where pottery was found" but no walling or wall stones. The turret was probably "all removed when road was made." (3)
The site of this turret is covered by a modern road. There are no visible remains. (4)
It appeared to Hepple that the turret had occupied the crest of a hill 70 yards from the centre of the bridge but the present road (18th century) had destroyed it. (see authority 3) There is no surface trace of the turret, the site lies beneath the modern road. The evidence for its position (at NY 9944 6851) is slender and unconvincing. (5)
Scheduled (6)
Located on the English Heritage map of Hadrian's Wall 2010. (7) |
