GATE CASTLE

DESCRIPTION + /

Site of a probable tower. Described by one documentary source as the south gate to the deer park owned by the Bishops of Durham, but the site lies one mile inside the south wall of the park. The site has now been completely cleared but earlier records describe the ruins of an L-shaped building constructed of stone rubble.
