More information : Medieval / post medieval lynchets comprising a field system are visible as earthworks centred at approximately SD 4601 6443, to the north-east of Torrisholme, on aerial photography and lidar imagery and appear to remain largely extant on the latest 2010 vertical photography.
The field system dominates a low ridge running north-south and also includes a number of boundaries still in use and not mapped by the Lancashire NMP project. A number of fields of ridge and furrow ploughing (UID 1613431) are defined by the system. The Scheduled Torrisholme Bronze Age round barrow (UID 41141) is located in the southern part of the field system and is incorporated into a later lynchet, forming a right-angled boundary at the summit of the ridge (1-3). |
