A Second World War anti-aircraft gun tower was visible on historical aerial photographs taken in 1944. The gun tower with its adjacent accommodation block or airfield sleeping shelter is located, south of RAF Filton in Filton Recreation Ground. The anti-aircraft tower, was one of four towers (Monument Numbers 1428419,1591480 and 1591479) that used the 40mm bofors gun to help defend the airfield during the war. The tower and adjacent shelter were both demolished after the war.
