More information : A medieval and/or post medieval water channel and pond are visible as earthworks on historical air photos and on lidar imagery at SE2342 7892. The pond is sub oval and embanked on all sides. It is fed from the east by water channel that can be traced to approximately 50m to the north-east where it appears to be artificially terminated by a more recent bank and ditches linear (see UID1590620). further to the north the ground appears to have been levelled or graded but it is possible that this section was once connected with the water channel running from Water Batts (see UID 1590594).
From the pond the water channel drains southward and may have previously linked with the mill race to the south-west (see UID 1590613). (1-4) |
