Summary : Small weaving mill, built in 1878-9 by Eli Higham of Woodnook. Housed 259 looms, employing 108 hands in 1883. About 1914 taken over by John Warburton Ltd of Haslingden (Highams held three fifths of share capital). 193 broad sheeting looms, 80 employees in the 1930s. Manufactured goods included twills, sheets and cotton blankets. Mill gutted by fire in 1936, Warburtons moved to Victoria Mill. Reconstructed in 1937 by Accrington Corporation, and leased to Giron Freres (GB) Ltd. Building comprise two-storey (renovated façade, two bays) building on Victoria Street, engine and boiler house at southern extremity, circular brick chimney on square base. Boiler house had metal lintel reading 'Lodge Mill 1879'. |
