Summary : The site of a Roman quarry inscription on the north face of a sandstone ridge known as Queen's Crag, 1.4 metres above the ground. The inscription consists of four lines and bears three names which appear to be the work of two individuals. |
More information : NY 795706. A Roman Quarry inscription cut into buff sandstone, was discovered on the northern face of Queens Crag by JA Simpson in 1960. It lies 60yds west of the field wall which runs north along the line of Black Dike and is protected by an overhang. The inscription reads:- SATVRNINVS RVFI[NVS HIINOIINVS OPTIO.
