Summary : The remains of a possible Second World War light anti aircraft battery can be seen on aerial photographs taken in 1946. This battery, surrounded by barbed wire, was positioned on Wells's Marshes between the Admiralty oil fuel storage station (see NMR 1540697), the Medway Oil and Storage Company (see NMR 1540706) and underground fuel storage tanks (NMR 1540715) and provided defence for these oil installations in conjunction with the battery to the north west (see NMR 1540724). The site was built over by the BP Oil refinery which was in operation from 1953; nothing is visible on 1954 air photos. This site was mapped from aerial photographs as part of the English Heritage: Hoo Peninsula Landscape Project. |

This battery, surrounded by barbed wire, was positioned on Wells's Marshes at TQ 8693 7452. This was between the Admiralty oil fuel storage station (see NMR 1540697), the Medway Oil and Storage Company (see NMR 1540706) and underground fuel storage tanks (NMR 1540715) and provided defence for these oil installations in conjunction with the battery to the north west (see NMR 1540724).
