Summary : 1944 wreck of stern section of American Landing Ship Tank which foundered approximately 11 miles SW of Hartland Point, after being torpedoed in convoy en route Liverpool-Milford Haven-Falmouth, and thence to Normandy. Constructed of steel, this craft was powered by engines, and laden with steel and smaller landing craft. This vessel appears to have been lost the same day to the same attacker as LCI(L) 99 (see 1534460); the same U-boat, U-667, had claimed EZRA WESTON [766919] and HMCS REGINA [1102944]. |

14-AUG-1944: LST 921 (1653 tons), en route Liverpool-Milford Haven-Falmouth in convoy EBC-72 with a cargo of structural steel and 18 LCVP landing craft, was torpedoed by U-667 at 1654hrs, in position 50 56N 004 47W, grid AM 98. LST 921 was struck aft on the port side, breaking off the stern. Two officers and 41 ratings were lost, the survivors being picked up and landed at Falmouth, where the bow section was also towed and served out the war as a hulk in Antwerp. (2)
