Summary : Site of the Peafowl Aviary at London Zoo which was constructed in 1903 and adjoined the northwest corner of the Bird House (Monument HOB UID 1169760). The aviary comprised a row of bird runs initially wooden shelters behind wire mesh covered runs. The shelters were rebuilt in concrete with corrugated-sheet roofing and had a ten bay steel frame measuring 33 metres by 7 metres. The site is now occupied by the B.U.G.S (Biodiversity Underpinning Global Survival), an exhibit which was first known as the Web of Life. This was built in 1999 by Wharmby Kozdon Associates. |
