Summary : The Headkeeper's Quarters at London Zoo is situated at what is now known as the East Service Gate. It was built in 1863-64 probably by Anthony Salvin (1799-1881) when he was the architect at the Zoo, and extended in 1909 when the service gate was formed and it was used as a lodge. The building has two storeys, is T-shaped on plan, and is built of brick painted white and has slate roofs. Additions are present on the north and south sides. Later uses for the building include storage and meeting rooms. |
