Summary : Three sixteen-storey tower blocks built as public housing as part of the redevelopment of the Elizabeth St area. The blocks contained 51 one-bedroom flats, 189 two-bedroom flats and 48 three-bedroom flats, providing 288 dwellings in total. Construction was of insitu concrete with brick infill. Construction took place from 1960 to 1962. All of the blocks are now demolished. |

The individual names and addresses of the blocks are unknown, as is the date of demolition. The Elizabeth St Redevelopment Area (RDA) was a mixed development that also incoporated shops, garages and other low-rise public housing. The density of the scheme was 141.8 habitable rooms per acre. The tower blocks were situated in the central area of the redevelopment. One of the blocks was situated approximately 20 feet from an underground railway tunnel, which therefore made accurate surveying of the area necessary. George Wimpey & Co. Ltd.'s tender for the contract for the whole development was £1,047,146 15s. 0d. Construction commenced on 7th November 1960 and was completed in July of 1962. (2)
