More information : Part of Dere Street Roman road in the vicinity of Corbridge fort and town, is visible as cropmarks on aerial photographs. Four sections are visible as areas of light cropmarks indicating the road agger bank and/or compacted road surface, sometimes with traces of flanking ditches. One section aligned approximately NE-SW, lies on the north bank of the River Tyne, within the vicus west of Corbridge fort and intersects with Stanegate at NY 9809 6488,. Three further sections lie on the south bank of the River Tyne, aligned NW-SE. There is possibly evidence of an enclosure abutting the road (recorded in UID:1489560). (1-4) |
