Summary : A series of post medieval banks, field boundaries and possible quarries are visible as earthworks on air photographs. The field boundaries are all banked in an east-west alignment. The banked earthworks extend in a north-south alignment and may be field boundaries or disused roads to Ashton Hall to the immediate north (UID 40973). The possible quarrying features are shallow and appear to underlay the earthwork banks. Most of the features are still extant on the latest 1988 Cumbria and Lancashire Archaeological Unit oblique photography. |
