HARTLEY BANK COLLIERY

The Hartley Bank Colliery was a 19th century colliery worked into the 20th century. It sufered a disaster on 23rd May 1924 when arcing in electrical coal-cutting equipment ignited firedamp, and five miners were killed, 26 others injured.
